Compress an Image to 200 KB
200 KB is the usual ceiling on job portals, marketplace listings and web forms — enough room for a detailed photo with no obvious loss. Nothing leaves this tab.

How it works
- Your browser reads the image from your disk. The picture never goes over the network.
- It finds the largest dimensions and JPEG quality that stay under 200 KB and keeps that result, rather than compressing further than the limit requires.
- You see the final size and dimensions before downloading. If 200 KB cannot be reached, the card shows the smallest honest result.
Why 200 KB is a comfortable target
It leaves room for a real photo. 200 KB is roughly twice the budget of a 100 KB page, so the tool can keep more pixels and a higher quality setting. A phone photo usually stays presentable at a good viewing size, not just as a thumbnail.
It is still a budget, not a guarantee. A very large 48-megapixel photo or a noisy low-light shot may need to be scaled down more than a clean daylight photo to reach the same number. The result card tells you the dimensions that were used.
JPEG for photos, PNG for graphics. A photograph as PNG will often miss 200 KB, because PNG is lossless. A screenshot or logo with flat colours may fit as PNG and stay crisp; a photo should use JPEG.
The count is strict. 200 KB here means at most 200,000 bytes, so the file is safely under a portal that counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.

Questions
What is 200 KB used for?
Job application portals, marketplace and rental listings, university forms and web contact forms often cap uploads at 200 KB. It is also a sensible size for email.
Will 200 KB look good?
Usually. It is enough for a detailed photo at a reasonable viewing size. The card shows the final dimensions so you can judge before downloading.
Should I pick JPEG or PNG?
JPEG for photographs; PNG only for flat-colour graphics or images that need transparency. A photographic PNG will usually be far larger than 200 KB.
Why did it scale my image down?
The pixel budget and the quality budget trade against each other. To stay under 200 KB, the tool may reduce dimensions rather than smear a full-size image. The result card reports what it used.
Is 200 KB the same as 200,000 bytes?
Here, yes: we count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes. That is the stricter reading, so the result also passes a form that counts 1,024 bytes per KB.
Does it upload my photo?
No. The page reads and re-encodes the file locally. No request carries the image.
