PDF Accessibility Checker That Never Uploads Your File
Drop a PDF to see which machine-checkable accessibility requirements it misses — tags, language, title, image alt text, headings, table headers, fonts and form fields — with the pages to fix. The file stays in this browser tab.

What it checks
- Tags. Whether the PDF has a structure tree at all, and whether any text or graphics sit outside it without being marked as decoration.
- Language and title. Set in the document, and the title shown instead of the file name.
- Images. Every tagged figure has alternative text.
- Headings and tables. Headings start at H1 and do not skip levels; tables have header cells.
- Fonts. Every font used for text is embedded.
- Links and forms. Annotations are tagged, links describe where they go, fields have names, and tab order follows the structure.
- Scans. Pages that are only an image, with no text layer to read.
Each finding names the PDF/UA-1 clause and WCAG success criterion it relates to.
What it cannot check
Some requirements need a person: whether the reading order makes sense, whether alt text actually describes the image, colour contrast, and whether a heading is really a heading. A clean result here means the automated requirements pass, not that the document is certified accessible. For a formal PDF/UA validation, use a full checker such as PAC or veraPDF, or a manual audit.
Why this matters now
The European Accessibility Act has applied to many products and services sold in the EU since 28 June 2025, and public-sector bodies in many countries already require accessible documents. Most accessibility problems in PDFs start at export: a document saved without tags cannot be fixed by later edits alone.

Questions
Is my PDF really not uploaded?
Correct. Open developer tools, go to the Network tab, and check a file. You will see the page, the script bundle and a few tiny counter pings — no request carrying your document.
Is this a PDF/UA validator?
It is a pre-check for the requirements a machine can verify. It does not certify conformance and it cannot judge reading order or the quality of alt text. Use it to find and fix the common failures before a full validation or manual review.
My PDF is password protected.
Encrypted PDFs cannot be read here. Remove the password in the app that made the file, then check the copy.
What reads the PDF?
The open-source pdf-lib library (MIT licensed), running in your browser.
